The Sarvadharma Parishad
The Sarvadharma Parishad convened by Swami Vivekananda is an important stage in his life. One night Swami Vivekananda had a wonderful dream...Shri Ramakrishna is walking on the sea in a radiant body and signaling Swamiji to follow him. Swamiji's eyes opened in an instant. At the same time, he clearly heard the message 'Go. Swami Vivekananda's determination to go abroad became firm. In a day or two, all the preparations for the trip were completed. On May 31, 1893, the Peninsular left the shores of Mumbai. On July 15, Swami arrived in the Canadian port of Vancouver. The True Representative of Hinduism
Swami Vivekananda became the true representative of Hinduism by appealing to the whole world through the interfaith Conference held in Chicago, USA on September 11, 1993. The synagogue began on the morning of Monday, September 11, 1893. Swami Vivekananda, who attended the meeting, was not a representative of any particular sect. He had come to the council as a representative of Sanatan Hindu Vedic Dharma from all over India. Each delegate at the conference read their pre-scheduled speech, Swamiji, however, did not transcribe his speech. Finally, remembering the Guru, Swamiji got up from his seat He addressed the gathering, beginning with the words, "My sisters and brothers in America... Everyone in the hall was mesmerized by his lively and energetic voice. There was such wonderful power in these words that thousands of men and women stood up as soon as Swamiji uttered those words. He gave a huge round of applause.
Here are some statements from Swami Vivekananda's speech in Chicago...
- I am proud to be from a religion that has taught the world a lesson of tolerance and universal acceptance. We do not just believe in universal tolerance, we
believe in all religions as one and the same.
- I am proud to be a resident of a country that gave shelter to people who were haressed by ell other countries.
- On this suspicious occasion, I remember a verse I read as a child. The meaning of the verse recited by Swami Vivekananda was as follows. In the same way that rivers from different places merge into the see, man chooses different paths out of his desires...even though these paths seem different in appearance, they are all going to God.
- Sectarianism, bigotry, and religious bigotry have gripped this land for a long time. Which has turned our earth red with violence and blood. Religious fanaticism has destroyed many cultures and countries.
- If this monster that spreads bigotry was not in today's society, then human society would have been much better. But now this
fanaticism will not last long. I hope that this convention will bring an end to all forms of bigotry, religious bigotry, and suffering.
The importance of Hindu Dharma
In this conference, by describing the importance of Hindu Dharma, Swami Vivekananda showed the Hindu community how wide its boundaries are after many centuries. Swamiji did not slander or criticize any religion. He did not call any religion petty. Speaking about Hindustan in this conference, he says, "Hindustan is a land of virtue, it is a land of duty, it is a clear truth. What can be called the home of insight and spirituality, is Hindustani Many religious founders have emerged here since ancient times. He has satisfied the world which is being eroded by the peaceful water of the holiest and eternal spiritual truth. Tolerance and intimacy with other religions in the world can only be experienced in this land." Swamiji was warmly welcomed by the people when he returned to Kolkata after making India famous abroad. He then started lecturing on various topics.
Though deeply proud of indie's spiritual culture, he sharply attacked its inferior norms, such as casteism.
